The Choose Topeka Relocation Program is designed to attract on-site and remote workers who wish to live in Shawnee County.

The program offers a variety of benefits, including up to $10K in funds for renting during your first year. The application process is easy and quick, and their eligibility requirements aren’t many, so you can make Topeka your new home in no time.

The eligibility requirements for the program vary depending on if you’re an on-site professional or a remote worker.

For On-Site Candidates

Confirmation from your employer if they participate in the Choose Topeka relocation incentive.

Move to Topeka for a full-time position

Purchase or rent a home as a primary residence in Shawnee County within a year of hire/move.

Be eligible to work in the US.

For Remote Workers

Limit one relocation inventive per household

A minimum of 3 months waiting period

Your remote employer must be located outside Shawnee County

Up to $10K in funds for rent in the first year

Up to $15K in funds for home purchase

GO Topeka/JEDO & Employer funds match 50% employer fund $2.5K up to $15K with employee transfer.

After your first year, GO Topeka/JEDO reimburses a 50% match of the total qualified relocation incentive to the employer for employee retention.

For Remote Workers

Up to $5K in funds for ren in the first year

Up to $10K in funds for a home purchase.

Choose Topeka Application Timeline

Filling out the choose Topeka application will not take much of your time. You can fill it out online, and it will only take a couple of minutes of your time.

There is no specific timeline for when you’ll receive an answer, but it should not take more than a couple of weeks.

For remote workers, all the 2022 funds have already been allocated. However, more opportunities will arise in the future so make sure to check the application website.

How Long Does Choose Topeka Relocation Initiative Last?

The Choose Topeka Relocation Program is meant as a permanent relocation. Shawnee County is looking for on-site professionals who wish to stay in Topeka permanently.

However, that is not to say you can’t choose to stay there only temporarily. Keep in mind that you must stay in Topeka for at least a year to receive all the benefits.

What If I'm Self-Employed?

If you’re self-employed, they’ll review your application along with verified supporting documentation. You’ll receive an email with the documents requested, so you can submit them in order to be verified as self-employed. The committee will review your application and be in touch for the next steps in the process.

Why Did the City Start the Choose Topeka Relocation Initiative?

The Choose Topeka Relocation Program Initiative started after Shawnee County realized that 40% of people who work in Topeka do not live in the County.

Their goal is to compete to get those employees back to the community in order to support their tax base and their schools and allow the city to have more resources that will improve the quality of life of their citizens.

They launched the program because they feel confident in their community and are proud of everything they’ve accomplished as a city.

Can Non-U.S. People Participate in the Program?

At the moment, the Topeka Relocation Program is aimed at local employers only. Sadly, anyone who is not eligible to work in the US can’t apply to this program.
