Lithuania Digital Nomad Visa Overview

Does Lithuania have a digital nomad visa? Unfortunately, it doesn’t. However, other visa options also work for remote workers and expats who wish to make Lithuania their temporary home.
EU, EEA, and Swiss citizens can live in Lithuania and work as digital nomads for up to three months without restrictions. However, for non-EU citizens, it is illegal to settle and work in any Lithuania without a work visa or permit.
Work visas are issued for people who are employed by a Lithuanian company. If this does not work for you, then you can opt for a Start-up Visa.
The Start-Up Visa is an alternative option for a digital nomad visa. It allows you to live in Lithuania while you set up a start-up business in one of the specified fields. This visa is best suited for freelancers, entrepreneurs, and self-employed individuals. The start-up visa will also allow you to get a Permanent Residence and eventually Lithuanian Citizenship.
Who Can Apply for the Start-Up Visa for Lithuania?
Any non-EU citizen can apply for the Start-Up Visa for Lithuania. However, there are certain criteria that you must meet in order to be eligible:
Your Start-up must offer an innovative solution
Have an MVP or prototype
You must be the funder of the start-up
Having some business traction is also usually required
Provide information about your plans to finance your activities for the first couple of years in Lithuania
If You Are a United States Citizen
If you’re a US citizen, you can visit Lithuania for up to 90 days without a visa. However, if you wish to stay for longer and work in the country, you’ll need to apply for a visa.
If You Are a US Green Card Holder
US Green Card holders might be required to get a visa in order to visit Lithuania. It depends on the type of passport you hold.
If You Are an EU Citizen
If you’re a citizen of a European Union Member State (EU), then you don’t need a visa in order to enter and visit Lithuania.
If You Are a Citizen of Canada
If you’re a Canadian citizen, you can visit Lithuania for up to 90 days without a visa. However, if you wish to stay for longer and work in the country, you’ll need to apply for a visa.

Lithuania Visa Requirements
In order to apply for the Lithuania Start-Up visa, you’ll need the following:
Fill out the visa form, consisting of 4 basic parts describing the founders, your team, product, and strategy.
Basic personal information about team members
An overview of your start-up idea or product and development strategy
A pitch deck
CV, diplomas, and other qualifications
Valid passport
Medical insurance
Certificate from the migration department
Proof of Financial Self-Sufficiency
There is no minimum income requirement for the start-up visa. There also isn’t a minimum investment requirement. However, make sure you have enough funds to be self-sufficient during your stay.
Full Health Insurance
You are required to have medical insurance in order to apply for the Start-up visa in Lithuania.

Clean Criminal Record
A clean criminal record is not part of the official requirements when you’re applying for the start-up visa, however, the Migration Department might request additional documentation. A clean criminal record might be requested then, so keep that in mind when acquiring all your documentation.
Proof of Accommodations
You are required to have accommodations for the entirety of your stay. You are not required to show proof during the initial application process. However, you might be asked about it by the Migration Department later on.
How to Apply for the Lithuania Visa — Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1 — Acquire All The Necessary Documents
The first step of your application is to acquire all the documentation you’ll need for the visa.

Step 2 — Submit Your Application
Once you have all the documents you’ll need, you can start your application via the official website. You must create an account in order to submit your application.
The online application requires that you fill out the visa form, provide basic personal information, and upload all your documents.
Step 3 — Have An Online Video Interview
After submitting your online application, and they deem it meets the requirements, you’ll have a video interview scheduled. It should take between 30 and 60 minutes. In this interview, you’re expected to pitch your idea for 2-5 minutes, just like you would to potential investors. After the pitch, there’ll be a Q&A session.
Step 4 — The Committee Will Evaluate Your Application
After the video interview, a committee will review and evaluate your application. This is an independent evaluation committee formed out of public and private sector representatives. It’ll take them up to 15 days to evaluate your application.
Step 5 — Receive an Answer From Migration Department
Once your application has been approved by the committee, you will receive an official confirmation letter from Enterprise Lithuania. This letter will state that your business commits to the requirements of the Law, on which it is based the Startup Visa program. Later, you’ll need this letter in order to apply for a Temporary Residence Permit.
Step 6 — Start Your Business in Lithuania!
You must officially establish the business within 120 days of receiving your Temporary Residence Permit. The official website of Startup Lithuania has a lot of helpful resources, and they will help you with the process of establishing your business in Lithuania.
Timeline for Applying for the Lithuania Visa
The application process takes up to 60 days to be completed. It is a long process, so you’ll have to be patient until you receive the confirmation letter from the Migration Department.
