How does WiFi Tribe work?

Firstly, to join the world of WiFi Tribe, you need to apply as a new member. It could not be easier as there are no particular requirements or restrictions on ages, nationalities, occupations, so on, except for one important thing.

The members must share similar perspectives and mindset, which will create a positive contribution to the community. In addition, WiFi Tribe cements its founding principles by featuring six core values, which are Respect, Humility, Camaraderie, Curiosity, Passion, Inclusion.

These are the ideas by which WiFi Tribe maintains harmony and productivity among its diverse community.

After registration, candidates will have to go through an application process to ensure they are a good fit for the Tribe’s values. WiFi Tribe offers applicants a chance to meet up with other nomads, so that they can exchange their stories and see if they are searching for the same experience.

Once accepted as a Tribe member, you can sign up to travel to wherever you like. Each journey (or a “chapter”) carries a small group of 12 to 25 nomads and lasts for a month. In that period, people from different nations gather and go to a new destination, where they will spend the next 4 weeks living and working in the same place.

During weekends, there are organized adventures, such as trekking, hiking, sailing, or whatever is great locally. Group members are encouraged to create connections through natural exploration.

The number of participants and the length of each chapter are designed with the specific purpose of simulating a small society that connects the group while interacting with each other and discovering the beauty of local life in the destination.

Since the 1st January 2020, the official WiFi Tribe website posted the latest updates on their pricing schemes and chapter plans. In short, the fee you will have to pay depends on the number of chapters you want to enroll in every year and the room you want to live in.

There are 3 particular packages, which are 1 chapter/year, 3 chapters/year and 5+ chapters/year.

Accordingly, you are offered a more attractive unit price if you sign up for a higher plan. Specifically, the 3-chapter plan would save from USD 200 to USD 400 per one chapter compared to the 1-chapter, and moving to the 5-chapter plan continues to create savings.

Room options include a Shared room or a Private room. As their names suggest, a private room allows you to have a space for your own that comes with a higher price compared to a shared room.

In addition, each room comes with 2 tiers available for your selection, which are T1 (which mostly covers Asian and Latin American chapters) and T2 (for South African and European chapters). In general, T2 chapters are more expensive than T1.

1-chapter plan

Shared room with T1 $1200

Shared room with T2 $1400

Private room with T1 $2000

Private room with T2 $2300

3-chapter plan

Shared room with T1 $1000

Shared room with T2 $1200

Private room with T1 $1600

Private room with T2 $1900

5+chapter plan

Shared room with T1 $900

Shared room with T2 $1100

Private room with T1 $1500

Private room with T2 $1800

New members who register the first time can start with a higher plan, then have maximum 2 weeks after the 1st trip to downgrade, and WiFi Tribe guarantees to refund their money.

It helps newbies to have a new experience at whatever they choose without worrying about losing money. Once nomads have chosen and paid for a plan, it will expire only when they use up all chapters, or after 12 months.

In terms of the payment procedure, after you have chosen a plan, you have to pay a deposit of USD 300 for one chapter, then proceed to the full payment no later than 8 weeks ahead of the trip. If you fail to do so, it will result in you losing the deposit.

WiFi Tribe has a clear refund policy.

If a member decides to cancel the plan from 4 to 8 weeks in prior to the chapter, he/she can get from 50% to 70% of the full payment, while the deposit is held off for the next chapter in the future. In case a cancellation is made from 0-4 weeks before the chapter, there will be no refund at all.

Where do you travel to?

WiFi Tribe has reached more than 60 countries around the world, stretching over multiple continents, nations and regions, from Asia, Africa, Central America, South America and Europe.

To check out the locations of future chapters, you can visit the official page and scroll through their list of the next stops.

WiFi Tribe promises to provide members with unique experiences by bringing them to a new destination for each chapter. When the site was first introduced, there was only one choice of a country for a month. But now, as the Tribe has been expanding, and each month there are 3-5 different city destinations you can choose from.

What all is included?

While members still have to handle a couple of tasks on their own, such as applying for visas, booking a flight, taking a trip with WiFi Tribe means that digital nomads no longer need to concern themselves with finding a place to live or work for a whole month.

All amenities are taken care of by WiFi Tribe and covered in the fee, and while you are not at work, you will be encouraged to join in weekend adventures organized by WiFi Tribe to discover the cool atmosphere of the place you are living.

One wonderful thing about WiFi Tribe is that all chapters provide a strong and stable internet connection. The company not only asks the landlord to check the connection speed, the founding team also buys 4G mobile data, to ensure every member can access to the network and their work will not be interrupted.

If someone requires a very fast internet connection, it should be mentioned beforehand in the application. The WiFi Tribe team will give advice on the most suitable destinations for anyone that needs super fast data connections.

How long is it?

A chapter with WiFi Tribe lasts for 4 weeks, when a group flies to a new city and spends a whole month living, working and exploring. After 4 weeks have passed, if you wish, you can sign up for another trip and start an adventure in the next location.

If you purchase a 1-chapter or 3-chapter plan, you can choose to join a journey anytime within 12 months, as long as you have unused chapters left. For 5+ chapter plans, it’s more flexible, since members can add more chapters anytime during a 12-month period at a much cheaper price.

You should definitely take the registration and payment time into consideration. Since full payment needs to be done 8 weeks before a chapter begins, it means you have to register at least 2 months earlier. If you really don’t like waiting, then buying a 5+ chapter plan with a long schedule ahead throughout the year would be ideal.
