Job Summary: The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the organization. This role involves managing the company’s accounting and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with regulations, and monitoring financial performance. The Director of Finance plays a key role in the development of financial strategies and the management of financial risks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the bookkeeping and finance functions of the organization, including managing a team of in-house and outsourced bookkeeping, A/R, and A/P staff.
- Oversee the preparation and accuracy of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Ensure proper maintenance of the accounting functions in Netsuite, Squishable's ERP system.
- Ensure compliance with sales and use tax reporting across multiple jurisdictions.
- Advise senior leadership on financial performance and strategies for improvement.
- Establish and enforce internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including tax laws and financial reporting standards.
- Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits and resolve any audit issues.
- Oversee cash flow management, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operational needs.
- Develop strategies to manage working capital efficiently and optimize financial performance.
- Lead, manage, and mentor accounting staff to ensure efficient operations and accurate reporting.
- Promote continuous professional development and improve team performance.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment with financial goals.
- Lead or participate in special financial projects as required, including mergers, acquisitions, and system upgrades.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s degree or CPA preferred).
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting or financial management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- At least 3 years of experience managing a financial function using Netsuite
- Strong knowledge of financial regulations, accounting standards, and internal control procedures.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with senior management and external partners.
Preferred Skills:
- Previous experience with multi-store brick-and-mortar retail and B2B/wholesale trade strongly preferred
- Strong analytical skills for detailed account reconciliations
- Comfort with ambiguity and creative problem-solving
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Salary: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
