We are currently seeking a Criminal Defense Paralegal to join our US-based law firm client. The ideal candidate will possess substantial knowledge and experience in criminal law and will assist attorneys in various stages of criminal defense cases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys in preparing for trials, hearings, and client meetings by organizing case files and conducting legal research.
- Draft legal documents, pleadings, motions, and correspondence relevant to criminal defense cases.
- Review and summarize police reports, witness statements, and other evidence to prepare for case analysis.
- Manage and maintain the office's case management system, ensuring all documents are filed and organized appropriately.
- Communicate with clients, witnesses, and experts as needed to gather information or schedule meetings.
- Assist in trial preparation by organizing exhibits, witness lists, and trial materials.
- Conduct legal research to assist attorneys in case strategy and development.
- Assist with case management, billing, and invoicing as necessary.
Requirements
- An Associate's degree or comparable experience in a legal environment.
- A minimum of 2-3 years' experience as a paralegal, particularly in the field of criminal defense.
- In-depth knowledge of criminal law and relevant legal terminology.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
- Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research applications.
- Strong organizational capabilities and meticulous attention to detail.
- Proficient in English.
- Familiarity with US criminal law at both state and federal levels.
- At least one year of experience in a law office.
- Effective writing skills.
- Experience with CLIO Manage software is advantageous.
- Customer service skills.
- Capability to perform under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
- Experience with case management software is a PLUS
