MaxMind (www.maxmind.com) is looking for a talented, experienced, and highly motivated Senior Data Analyst to help us develop and improve our IP-address based data products through sophisticated data analysis. We help protect thousands of companies worldwide from fraud, screening over three billion online transactions each year, and we provide IP intelligence data to thousands more. As a Senior Data Analyst, you will play an important role in helping develop and maintain our products and platform.

This is a full time remote position, and we welcome candidates to apply from anywhere in Canada. You must be eligible/authorized to work in Canada.

The Position

As a Senior Data Analyst, your job will be to carry out analysis projects both big and small on IP-based data. You may work on adding data-based features to existing products, investigate and improve existing data pipelines and code, automate data analyses, and develop entirely new services. We're looking for someone with a background in data analysis who is comfortable working both independently and on a team, can make good technical decisions, and is comfortable with coding as part of data analysis.  A code-based data analysis exercise will be given to all applicants.

Our salary range for the Senior Data Analyst role begins at $115K CAD, with the specific offer depending upon skills and experience. See more about benefits and compensation below.


About You -- Minimum qualifications
  • Strong statistics-based data analysis skills and love of finding patterns and answering questions with large data sets.
  • Able to write high quality Python for data analysis. Familiar with SQL, and experience or willingness to learn Go.  
  • Comfortable using analysis notebooks such as Collab or Jupyter rather than Business Intelligence tools for data analysis.
  • Comfortable running data analysis on Google Cloud or similar environments.
  • Experience writing code and producing documentation.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • The ability to work with a geographically dispersed team.


  • Desired, but not required
  • Experience with networking, security, or fraud problems and use of IP geolocation in these use cases.
  • Experience using data analysis to create data-based products for internal use or for sale to customers. 
  • Continuing to build data science skills.
  • An interest in picking up new programming languages. Most of our data pipeline production code is Go and Perl.
  • Open source code or data analysis contributions. Tell us about them!
  • An interest in performance, security, and data privacy.
  • Experience with Postgres or other relational databases.

    Our Interview Process

    One of the first steps in our interviewing process is a homework assignment, and we will ask you for a submission so we can gain insight into your work. The next step of our interview process would be a pairing session combined with a first round technical interview with our hiring manager and another member of the data/engineering team. This interview will cover questions specific to the role. Next, there would be a final interview with our COO and our HR Manager. That interview would be a more general / behavioral interview. The final step of our hiring process is reference checking.
