The Finance Operations Manager will be the go-to person for all operational aspects of Finance – from managing our core finance systems to ensuring compliance as we scale. You will operate autonomously as a senior individual contributor and partner closely with our Controller and Strategic Finance lead. This role is about building scalable processes: you’ll drive key projects (like system implementations and new entity setups), own day-to-day finance operations (billing, payables, payroll oversight), and proactively tackle compliance across multiple states and countries. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and love creating order and efficiency in finance, this role is for you.
This fully remote role reports to the VP of Finance & Business Operations and is open to candidates located anywhere in the continental US.
Oversee core financial systems, including accounting software, billing platform, expense reporting, and payroll provider. Continuously improve and integrate these systems for scale.
Manage day-to-day finance operations to ensure smooth monthly and quarterly close processes in coordination with the Controller. Process invoices, expenses, and journal entries on time.
Monitor accounts payable/receivable and cash flow. Document and refine process workflows for efficiency and control.
Serve as the point person for tax and compliance matters. Coordinate with external accountants and tax advisors for multi-state sales tax filings, income tax preparations, and audits. Maintain good standing in all required states and assist with international compliance.
Manage corporate banking operations, including opening and administering bank accounts, overseeing user access controls, and optimizing treasury functions.
Lead finance setup for new state or country expansions by partnering with Legal and HR to establish entities, finance infrastructure, and intercompany processes.
Implement internal controls and policies, including approval matrices, travel and expense policies, procurement processes, and revenue recognition policies, in collaboration with the Controller.
Act as a finance liaison to cross-functional teams, including Sales Operations, Legal, HR, Engineering, and Product.
Identify opportunities to streamline and improve finance operations using AI. Lead initiatives to enhance efficiency and scalability.
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field required. CPA or MBA is a plus, but not mandatory.
5+ years in finance operations, accounting, or similar roles. Prior experience in a tech or SaaS company is strongly preferred.
Understanding of software business finance, including subscription billing, SaaS metrics, and multi-state operations, is essential.
Experience at a growth-stage startup or Big 4 accounting firm is a plus.
Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills and familiarity with an accounting ERP (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite). Preferred experience includes Salesforce (or another CRM), expense management tools (Expensify, Ramp, etc.), and SQL or scripting for data analysis.
The ability to learn new software and drive system integrations is crucial.
Proven ability to lead projects and improve processes. Experience managing initiatives such as software implementations or company-wide process rollouts. Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Strong understanding of finance compliance, US GAAP, revenue recognition, and tax fundamentals (sales tax, payroll tax, etc.). Experience with multi-state tax or international subsidiaries is a plus.
Acute attention to detail with the ability to analyze financial data and identify anomalies. Comfortable reviewing financial reports and troubleshooting discrepancies. Accuracy and completeness are top priorities.
Self-starter who operates with minimal supervision, takes ownership of problems, and drives them to resolution. Ability to work autonomously while keeping stakeholders informed.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to explain financial processes clearly and provide strong service to internal stakeholders.
High ethical standards with the ability to handle confidential information discreetly. Reliable, trustworthy, and committed to strong financial controls and accurate, timely work.
