JOB PURPOSE

We're seeking a dynamic Senior Insurance Regulatory/Technology Lawyer with over 6 years of relevant experience. Ideally, you have a background in a pan-European non-life Insurtech, insurer, insurance distributor, or advising on Insurtech/insurance at a top law firm.
 
As Senior Legal Counsel at Companjon, you'll be our legal expert, providing crucial advice to all internal stakeholders, including the Executive Management Team. You'll support the Head of Legal and work with the legal team to mitigate key legal risks. You'll manage your workload independently and directly assist colleagues with commercial matters.

ROLE AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

What you will do as a Senior Legal Counsel in Companjon
  1. Legal Advisory and Support:
  1. Provide expert legal advice on a broad range of matters including 
    • Insurance distribution and insurance licensing
    • Pan-European Consumer protection regulation
    • GDPR / Privacy laws / regulations
    • General commercial and company law

 


    • Work with internal stakeholders to ensure the company operates within the legal and regulatory framework to support business growth and our business partners

 


    • Collaborate with the compliance team to monitor and interpret relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines affecting the insurtech sector.

 

  1. Growth Support:

 


    • Providing legal advice on the development of products including policy wordings, IPIDs and customer journeys 

 


    • Supporting the development and growth of distribution channels across a number of industry verticals and global digital platforms

 


    • Key advisor on the establishment of relationships with external risk carriers and for licenses in new jurisdictions

 

  1. Commercial Contracts:

 


    • Draft and support the negotiations of commercial agreements with our Business Partners ensuring compliance with insurance regulations, data protection and privacy laws

 


    • Preparation of Distribution Agreements, Delegated Authorities/ Agreements with risk carriers and reinsurance agreements

 

  1. Leadership & Collaboration:

 


    • Ability to live Companjon’s apprenticeship approach to leadership and be willing to mentor and guide junior members of Companjon.

 


    • Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment, encouraging professional development and knowledge sharing.
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

What you will need to succeed
  • Qualified lawyer in Ireland, UK or another EU jurisdiction
  • Minimum of 6+ years of legal experience, with a strong background in (re)insurance regulation or regulated financial services sectors or within the technology industry
  • Understanding of distribution and outsourcing in a regulated financial services sector is an advantage
  • Thrives in fast-paced, high-growth environments, with international, cross-border experience
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance laws and regulations, in particular Solvency II, Insurance Distribution Directive, GDPR and local consumer protection laws.
  • Self-starter with strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong drafting skills and experience directly liaising with counterparty legal counsel in commercial contract negotiations
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with a desire to work on client facing projects
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Fluency in English, other European languages a plus;
