Welcome to The Gilded Apartment, my colourful, characterful home in Lavapiés, right in central Madrid. “Gilded” comes from the gold touches throughout the flat and the Art Deco vibe I love.

Lavapiés is one of Madrid’s most vibrant and multicultural neighbourhoods, with African, Indian, Latin American, Asian, Japanese and Spanish influences on your doorstep, as well as great cafés, vintage shops and the much-loved Mercado de San Fernando.

Lavapiés metro is just a few minutes’ walk away. One stop takes you to Sol, the pulsating heart of Madrid, and one stop to Atocha station for travel throughout Spain. The Reina Sofía is about fifteen minutes away on foot, with the Prado and Retiro just beyond.

Despite the lively location, the apartment is quiet as it is set far back from the street and faces a quiet interior courtyard. It’s a real home rather than a cookie-cutter rental, with comfortable beds, quality linen, plenty of storage, a well-equipped kitchen and a dedicated desk.
There’s no air conditioning, but powerful ceiling fans and good insulation help keep the apartment comfortable in summer. Electric heating keeps it cosy in winter and often doesn’t need to run constantly.

If you’re looking for a traditional, very quiet Madrid barrio, Lavapiés may not be for you. But if you love a vibrant, multicultural atmosphere, art, great food and the energy of real Madrid, you won’t be disappointed.

Rental conditions
The monthly rent includes water and high-speed fibre internet. Electricity is charged separately according to actual consumption (typically approximately €50–€100 per month). A mandatory €150 professional end-of-tenancy cleaning fee applies and is disclosed as part of the booking conditions.

Temporary rental
This property is offered exclusively under a Spanish temporary residential tenancy agreement (contrato de arrendamiento de vivienda temporal) and is not offered as a permanent or habitual residence.
Tenants must have a genuine, justified and verifiable temporary reason for their stay in Madrid while maintaining their habitual residence elsewhere. This may include studies, temporary employment, a professional assignment, a digital-nomad stay or another legitimate temporary reason. The reason for the temporary stay will be stated in the rental agreement and appropriate supporting documentation will be required.

Empadronamiento
Empadronamiento is not automatically included or guaranteed. For stays of at least six months, requests may be considered where the applicable requirements of Madrid City Council are met and this remains compatible with the documented temporary nature of the tenancy. Madrid City Council currently requires a rental contract with a minimum duration of six months when the rental contract is used as the standard evidence of occupation for padrón registration. If empadronamiento is important to you, please raise this before booking.

Tenant requirements
Students and working professionals are welcome. Employed applicants will be asked to provide their employment contract and three most recent payslips. As a general affordability criterion, the combined net monthly income of the tenants should be approximately three times the monthly rent approximately (€4,000

Students and applicants who do not meet the standard income requirement may still be considered where an appropriate guarantor or another guarantee arrangement permitted by applicable law is agreed before the booking is confirmed.

All tenants must successfully complete ID verification through the HousingAnywhere platform. Applicants who are not EU citizens must also provide evidence of the appropriate visa or residence authorisation for their stay in Spain, such as a student, work or digital-nomad visa/authorisation, as applicable.

Frequently asked questions for this offer

What happens after I make a reservation?

Once you send a reservation request, the landlord is notified that you are interested in their offer. From that moment, they have 24 hours to approve or reject your reservation.
Landlords are mainly interested in the profile of their tenant. Do not forget to fill in all necessary information, add your profile picture, or even make a short video about yourself. Doing that will make you more attractive for the owner and your reservation will more likely get approved.

What is the standard furnishing of flats?

All the apartments on offer on HousingAnywhere must meet certain standards. We require fully furnished and equipped ones, dishes, cutlery and internet connection included.

What is a medium-term rent?

The duration of a medium-term rent is usually 1 to 12 months. Most of the landlords offer long-term rents or rents for just a few days, therefore getting a medium-term rent without HousingAnywhere is not that easy.

Can I go through the contract before I make a reservation of the housing?

You can take a look at the contract in advance and online with every offer. After you sign it, you will find it in the application My Housing.
While arranging a contract on HousingAnywhere, you do not have to worry that it could be disadvantageous for you. Our contracts are made so that we avoid all problems! All of them are the same, used by all the landlords on HousingAnywhere.

Can I see my chosen accommodation in person before I sign the lease agreement?

Your time is precious. That's why we've added a virtual tour option to our platform so you can see some of the rentals listed on HousingAnywhere from the comfort of your own home.
If a virtual tour isn't available for the accommodation you've chosen, you can contact the landlord and ask them if they're willing to give you a personal tour of the rental unit.
If you move in and find that the rented accommodation doesn't match the information on HousingAnywhere at the time the reservation request was sent to the landlord, you can withdraw from the lease agreement under certain circumstances explained in this article in our help center.
Also, under our "secure move-in" policy, we'll assist you with moving to an alternative accommodation if you report within a certain period of time that the rental unit doesn't match the ad and the landlord doesn't fix the problem immediately. You can read the details in our help center.

How can I pay?

On HousingAnywhere, you have a variety of payment methods to choose from. You can use your card, payment gateway or bank transfer. Just pick the one which suits you the most.

How can I cancel my reservation?

How you can cancel a reservation varies depending on what stage the reservation is in.
Is your reservation request still waiting for landlord approval? Then you can simply cancel it directly from your My Housing web app!
However, suppose the owner has already approved your reservation request, and you are no longer interested in it. In that case, you can still cancel the reservation before you sign the lease agreement. Just consider that you should do this only in essential cases. Because when the landlord accepts your reservation, their property is stopped being advertised, and they can lose the chance to rent their property to someone else.
Do you have an approved reservation and also a valid agreement? In order to cancel your reservation, contact HousingAnywhere customer support well in advance of your contract beginning (the specific time and amount of refund depends on the type of cancelation policy).
