Job details
At Longdue, we make narrative-first, psychologically deep RPGs.
Our focus is real depth— in our characters, environments, and the stories we tell. We’re here to challenge your choices, your morality—everything you think you know. We’re here to make games where decisions matter and have consequences. We're building on the legacy of foundational story-driven RPGs and joining the modern classics as we step into the future.
Our goal is simple: be a trusted name in the greater RPG canon. We’re Longdue, and we’re here to leave our mark.
We’re looking for a Game Director to oversee the creative and technical direction of Longdue’s debut RPG.
In this role, you will work closely with the core team to ensure that gameplay, story, and world-building come together in a cohesive and engaging way. You will guide the development process, ensuring that mechanics reinforce narrative themes and that all disciplines align under a singular creative vision.
As an early-stage studio, we need someone comfortable working with ambiguity, who can help establish core gameplay pillars, influence technical direction, and set the stage for the production phase.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the Creative & Technical Vision – Oversee the game’s high-level direction, ensuring gameplay, story, and visuals work in harmony.
- Define & Evolve Core Gameplay – Work with the core team to refine gameplay mechanics that reinforce the game’s narrative depth and player choice.
- Collaborate Across Disciplines – Bridge the gap between narrative, art, gameplay, and engineering, ensuring all teams contribute to a unified experience.
- Support World-Building – Help translate our early-stage narrative and setting into interactive systems and gameplay experiences.
- Drive the Prototyping Phase – Guide the team through gameplay prototyping, establishing systems, mechanics, and technical requirements.
- Ensure Narrative & Gameplay Cohesion – Work closely with the Narrative Director and writers to ensure story-driven mechanics feel immersive and meaningful.
- Advise on Technical Choices – Help determine tools, game engines, and development pipelines that best support the game’s vision.
- Prepare for Kickstarter & Pre-Production – Assist in creating gameplay proofs-of-concept, vertical slices, and pitch materials for crowdfunding and publishing discussions.
Requirements
- Proven Leadership in Game Development – Experience as a Game Director, Technical Director, or Lead Systems Designer on narrative-driven or RPG projects, with a technical foundation in game engines, AI systems, or gameplay programming.
- Narrative-Driven Game Expertise – Strong understanding of storytelling mechanics, dialogue systems, and RPG-style player agency.
- Technical Fluency – Knowledge of game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine), AI systems, procedural tools, or narrative scripting.
- Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration – Ability to work across design, art, writing, and engineering teams to unify creative direction.
- Experience with Prototyping & Iteration – Familiarity with early-stage development, creating gameplay prototypes and testing player engagement.
- Strategic Thinking – Ability to make high-level gameplay and production decisions to ensure efficient development.
- Passion for RPGs & Narrative Games – A deep enthusiasm for games that prioritise player choice, storytelling, and immersive worlds.
NICE-TO-HAVE
- Experience working on indie or crowdfunded projects.
- Familiarity with TTRPG-inspired mechanics (e.g., skill checks, dialogue trees, procedural storytelling).
- Background in systems design, AI-driven storytelling, or procedural content generation.
- Experience with Kickstarter or early-stage funding strategies.
