Property
Authentic Portuguese quinta located on the eastern flanks of the Sico massif, this beautiful home is nestled into a wooded area lying on the edge of the small village of Alvorge. Home to a creative community engaged for sustainability it welcomes guests from all over the world.
SHARED SPACES
Fully Renovated in 2019, the 200 year old property was originally an imposing traditional Portuguese farmhouse, now sympathetically renovated to retain many original features while providing modernity and comfort.
On the ground floor, the double height ceiling kitchen with its exposed roof rafters is fully equipped with all the necessities and includes a very spacious dining area. With its wood burner and large table that can fit up to 10 people, this area provides the perfect space if you want to work with other remote workers in the house. On the same floor, the 20m2 semi open lounge with its log burner and two comfy sofas is perfect to meet and relax with other guests.
The Quinta also offers beautiful outside spaces to enjoy with other guests. While the shaded east facing courtyard with pergola vines/jasmine/wisteria and calcada paving is perfect for lunch while the sun is high, the beautiful private landscaped garden facing south will provide you with your own slice of natural beauty. Its flat and gently sloping terrace offers 500m2 of nature laid to the wild meadow lawn. Surrounded by pine, olive, citrus, & joshua trees, it's also home to rosemary, lavender, sage, and other beautiful flowers.
Near the house, two spaces have been created by the host to provide a unique experience : the art studio and the brewery. The first one is a cosy space, home of ceramics and art classes for the creative souls. The brewery on the other hand, installed in the open barn, serves local beer brewed on site using all natural ingredients, with no added chemicals. Perfect to enjoy an evening in good company.
Bonus: A small hot tube can be provided on request!
COMMUNITY & ACTIVITIES
Travelers themselves, the hosts who had first created the space to welcome tourists and art lovers, are now turning to remote workers and hoping to create a community with strong values looking to take a break in this slice of local and sustainable paradise.
In addition to all the sports activities available outside of the quinta, the owners offer art (ceramics, wheel throwing and sketching) and yoga classes. They are also developing new activities for remote workers such as retreats and networking events.
VISION
After 30 years living out of a suitcase, travelling to far flung corners of the world, working up to 100 hours a week, the hosts got inspired by watching their Portuguese neighbours, working together, helping each other on their farms, harvesting olives, harvesting grapes, sharing the surplus…
It led them to the creation of a new welcoming space. A place to take time for yourself, time to think, time to be creative. A space also to connect with new people, places and cultures.
Respecting the local ecosystem and sustainability are also two strong values of this stay.
- The Quinta was restored working with local craft tradesmen, using locally sourced materials to make use of dilapidated property, rather than new build.
- Solar heated water, wood fired back boilers for central heating, high levels of insulation, A+ rated appliances, and Solar PV for electric generation all go towards minimising your carbon footprint during your stay.
- A wastewater treatment plant treats all of the water used by the house, providing clean water for irrigation in the garden.
- The majority of goods and services are from local craftsmen: neighbours vegetables, local cheese and wine from the valley, fish and freshly baked bread delivered at the door.

Flora and fauna
The Quinta is located in the vast region known as “Terras de Sicó” (Lands of Sicó) which has unique characteristics in terms of Biodiversity.
FLORA
The Ecological Park of Algarinho (Penela) - Gramatinha (Ansião) - Ariques (Alvaiázere) has an area of approximately 30 000 hectares joining the Municipalities of Penela, Ansião and Alvaiázere. It is one of the greatest landscape areas of foremost importance not only to the Sub-region of Sicó, but also to the Centre Region and to Portugal itself.
The surrounding woods, replete with oaks and wild olives are well preserved and shelter more than 800 species of vegetable kingdoms, some of which are endemisms, like some wild lilies and orchids. There are centennial and even millennial species of portuguese oak tree, olive trees and wild olives.
FAUNA
In this very rich region, animal lovers can devote themselves to appreciating species such as the genet, the carrion crow, the eagle owl, the short-toed eagle, fox, hoopoe, multiple species of frogs, snakes and butterflies. Bats are also a centerpiece in this region where the dissolution of the limestone led to the opening of extensive caves and caves.

EXPERIENCE THE LOCAL LIFE
The property is located in the village of Alvorge, near the town of Ansião, in the centre of Portugal, in the region called Terras de Sicó.
Like a local you’ll love to taste the delicious local traditional gastronomy - Mel Terras de Sicó, Lands of Sicó wine, Terras de Sicó Olive Oil, Rabaçal cheese… From honey to cheese, you have everything you need right there. Many people in the area live from agricultural practices and pastoralism.
The region is also infused by its own ancient history. The Serra de Sicó mountain is a living witness of it, offering several important archaeological remains among its extensive oak forests. Follow the mountain paths in long walks or invigorating bike rides and then descend the Rabaçal valley to explore its Roman villa. Spend the night at Ansião, see where the Nabão waters come from.
Go back to the first years of pre-History at Sicó’s Fossil Museum at Santiago da Guarda which shows the region’s vast paleontological collection. Explore the streets of the old medieval town of Penela and don’t miss the impressive Conímbriga ruins, the greatest witness of the Lusitanian Roman Empire.
DIVE INTO THE DIGITAL NOMAD SCENE
The stay is in an off-the-beaten path location, away from the busy city life. It’s the perfect place to deep dive in the local Portuguese culture. The stay itself started welcoming remote workers in 2021. The hosts are now creating occasions to build new connections.

Frequently asked questions for this offer
What happens after I make a reservation?
Once you send a reservation request, the landlord is notified that you are interested in their offer. From that moment, they have 24 hours to approve or reject your reservation.
Landlords are mainly interested in the profile of their tenant. Do not forget to fill in all necessary information, add your profile picture, or even make a short video about yourself. Doing that will make you more attractive for the owner and your reservation will more likely get approved.
What is the standard furnishing of flats?
All the apartments on offer on Flatio must meet certain standards. We require fully furnished and equipped ones, dishes, cutlery and internet connection included.
What is a medium-term rent?
The duration of a medium-term rent is usually 1 to 12 months. Most of the landlords offer long-term rents or rents for just a few days, therefore getting a medium-term rent without Flatio is not that easy.
Can I go through the contract before I make a reservation of the housing?
You can take a look at the contract in advance and online with every offer. After you sign it, you will find it in the application My Housing.
While arranging a contract on Flatio, you do not have to worry that it could be disadvantageous for you. Our contracts are made so that we avoid all problems! All of them are the same, used by all the landlords on Flatio.
Can I see my chosen accommodation in person before I sign the lease agreement?
Your time is precious. That's why we've added a virtual tour option to our platform so you can see some of the rentals listed on Flatio from the comfort of your own home.
If a virtual tour isn't available for the accommodation you've chosen, you can contact the landlord and ask them if they're willing to give you a personal tour of the rental unit.
If you move in and find that the rented accommodation doesn't match the information on Flatio at the time the reservation request was sent to the landlord, you can withdraw from the lease agreement under certain circumstances explained in this article in our help center.
Also, under our "secure move-in" policy, we'll assist you with moving to an alternative accommodation if you report within a certain period of time that the rental unit doesn't match the ad and the landlord doesn't fix the problem immediately. You can read the details in our help center.
How can I pay?
On Flatio, you have a variety of payment methods to choose from. You can use your card, payment gateway or bank transfer. Just pick the one which suits you the most.
How can I cancel my reservation?
How you can cancel a reservation varies depending on what stage the reservation is in.
Is your reservation request still waiting for landlord approval? Then you can simply cancel it directly from your My Housing web app!
However, suppose the owner has already approved your reservation request, and you are no longer interested in it. In that case, you can still cancel the reservation before you sign the lease agreement. Just consider that you should do this only in essential cases. Because when the landlord accepts your reservation, their property is stopped being advertised, and they can lose the chance to rent their property to someone else.
Do you have an approved reservation and also a valid agreement? In order to cancel your reservation, contact Flatio customer support well in advance of your contract beginning (the specific time and amount of refund depends on the type of cancelation policy).
